The starting point of my ideas for my own brief to create a life style brand, and a range to go with it.
I looked at Norse Projects style and it has inspired me to create a minimal, high quality line, prided on workmanship and wear-ablity rather than something outlandish and unusable and unwearable.
I first started looking at logo design, I wanted to keep it simple and not get bogged down thinking of a name so I just took my initial and just coupled it with what it was going to be, a life style brand so simply H Life Style. Then looking into logos I wanted to keep it simple and light, keeping it symmetrical was important to me. I use illustrator to draw up to ideas and edit the text around them accordingly to keep it balanced.
I feel the first H in a triangle logo looks a little too superheroish, so I moved away from that idea. And moved on to a minimal cross idea incorporating the text around it. I spaced the lettering of Life and Style so even though they have differing amounts of letters they take up the same amount of space. Therefore balancing them right to left. With the H by itself I thought it made the the cross look top heavy, so I then added the upside down triangle below. I think this makes the logo look very smart and well put together.
Then over to the side I began putting together some patch designs, combining the logo and a tagline/slogan. Again spacing and keeping the text light giving a classy look. I experimented with a canvas background on one of the ideas just to have a look what it would look like printed onto a patch.
I then looked at making some patterns using these logos, for possible using for allover background prints for t-shirts. I don't really like the top right and bottom left. Even though the top right was possible to complicated to be used on too small over a scale. I like the classic polka dot pattern I made and I think I'll most likely use it at some point.
